Last month I had a amazing opportunity to attend a event at Nike Women in the Marina area of SF. This event was called Lead Like Her, which is a digital platform for women to tell her stories and inspire change. The platform was started by Martha Kirby who is a digital producer at Nike. She also has a gorgeous Instagram.
I had heard about through the BBG Bay Area Facebook page. BBG stands for Bikini Body Guide and is a 12 week workout guide by Kayla Itsines. This group has been amazing to me and I have met so many wonderful women who are into fitness and community. I have gone to workout meetups and even helped one of the gals in the group with her Pilates training by attending her mock classes. My goal this year is to finally finish the program and I know with the support of this group I can do it! Two of the gals on the panel spoke at this event so I was so happy to attend and support.
Now that you have the background here is the nitty gritty on the event which was set up with a speaking panel of three fitness influencers from the Bay Area. When I first arrived it had been raining that day and I didn’t want to be late so I was pretty early! This was a good thing as I got to speak with the panelists and browse the Nike store. An added bonus there was three different types of to-go salads from Sweetgreen which I made sure to try and very tasty mock cocktails from Clearly Kombucha! This was a pretty small event with about 40 people in attendance. At the end of the event I got to take home some salads and kombucha to share with my husband! I also left with a fun swag bag with items from Nike, Kai Fragrances, Oenobeauty, beGlammed to enjoy once I got home.
The panel featured three fitness influencers: Joanne Encarnacion (gofitjo), Mika Roxas (plantsandplanks) and Alyssa Chang (achangpt). What hit home to me the most during this panel was how honest these women were about fitness and the journey to be healthy. Some of them have suffered from depression, eating disorders to simply working out so hard it caused metabolic damage. Nothing was sugar-coated about the struggles but you could tell they all wanted to be an positive example and support to women who might be in the same position.
I tried to soak in all the knowledge and grab a few nuggets of wisdom from the panelists:
When asked what they do if they hit a roadblock:
Joanne said “Knowledge what is great and 5 things I love about yourself. I also play my favorite jams “Love On Top” by Beyonce.”
Mickey said “Going for a run or spin class and I create a list of 5 accomplish-able things. She also listens to “Don’t Stop Believing,” by Journey.
I am so grateful that I got the chance to attend this inspiring (& tasty event) I will leave you with one more positive tidbit from Joanne “Love yourself at every stage of your journey.”
